Rue 57

Rue 57 is a little Parisian themed restaurant that oddly also showcases sushi dishes on 7th Avenue at 57th Street that we happened into for a quick snack before our much later dinner appointment. My mom had just arrived in on the train earlier that afternoon and had spent a tiring time wheeling her suitcase from one museum to the next. Due to the new security rules, post 9-11, the MET no longer allows larger suitcases to be left in the coat/ bag check area….The MET also insists that you take your cell phones with you as well and not leave them in check. This, I think, is to prevent any chance of someone activating a cell phone controlled explosive device or the like. (Although, it could also just be the mundane…the annoyance factor to the coat check people who don’t want to hear your cell phone go off every 5 seconds.)

My Mom had the yellowtail sashimi and the salmon roe sushi (1 piece each!) Here they are:

I had the tuna and yellowtail sashimi, both came with a real leaf instead of the fake plastic one you see in preboxed sushi kits. Here’s the sashimi:

Hints of indigo blue lights glimmered around the room and were offset by the dark wood, covered wall sconces and red highlights both in the awning that you can see through the window and around the bar. Rue 57 would be a good place equally suited for entertaining a large group of friends as to a small business meeting between two coworkers or with a client. This shot shows the blue lights around the bar and through the restaurant:

And this shot also shows the interior well:
