Ever notice how many Italian restaurants there are in New York?
Just on my block where I used to work there are three different restaurants that all revolve around Italian themes. Often they have part of their menu written in Italian too.
For example, the above, "Trattoria dopo Teatro" or the After Theater Restaurant. Then of course there are also the Italian restaurants that allude to prominent Italian cultural artifacts or books such as, for example here: Virgil's Barbecue.
Now this one kind of threw me for a loop as I would have thought, hm, okay we're going to go with the barbecue theme restaurant so to appropriately reach our target audience, we want to impress upon them how hot or burningly good our barbecue is going to be right? Well, then the logical choice would be Dante's Inferno from the Divine Comedy right? …….So explain to me the relevance of Virgil to Barbecue??
