Aquavit is one of the best dining experiences that Food City Bytes has had in New York City. Of the restaurants I have eaten in, I would rank Public and Eight Mile Grill right up there with it too….but of course you say…Wha’???? Wha’ about Nobu or A Voce or Daniel or Eleven Madison Park or Babbo etc. etc. Well, Food City Bytes has not yet ::sigh, life is so rough! feel free to offer kind readers! sigh:: had the chance to dine as such hallowed New York grounds.
and….as of to prepare you for the funny and entertaining culinary experience that awaits….wait for it….its….
POPCORN! That’s right folks, a 5 star NYC restaurant begins its meal with…popcorn! Its as if to say have fun.
First ordered was the Scandanavian herring sampler:
Each of these had very unique tastes. Definitiely, definitiely, defintiely get this dish! Even if you despise herring and you lips couldn’t even conceive of the thought of herring entering them, GET THIS DISH! Still not convinced?: well it comes with the necessary Carlsburg beer, and a glass of aquavit. Mixes very well together. My favorite was the one in the lower right hand corner…..it mixed mango and some refreshing herb on top that worked really well with the slightly salty tasting herring. In the center is a red potato.
Next was the lobster roll with trout row On top of some type of crispy bread. This was the star so far! Definitely took the cake. It was rich, succulent lobster and the row on top balanced it out with a giddy lightness and little burst that let liquid into your mouth with each bite.
For the entree, I had the Sweedish Salmon over potato puree with asparagus tips on top and a butter suace. So good! Let me tell you! The potato puress mixing with the asparagus was what appealed the most. Great consistency!
The other entree was lobster ravioli. Nice presentation. But sadly it was just… a solid good. just a solid good. Not a Wow! or a Oh, that’s really good! just simply good. ::sigh:: Lesson learned here, do not order the risotto menu item when at Aquavit; it is definitely not their forte. Perhaps the dish was jus tput on the menu to satiate the Italiophile who had the misfortune of accompanying their foodie friends to a sweet dinner joint, eh?
For dessert was the artic circle. A blueberry sorbet on top of a goat cheese parfait with passion fruit curd (yes, that’s passion fruit down there in the two stripes there). Great presentation:
And here are the happy dinners full from their wonderful meal:
